Key takeaways

  • Specialization in a crowded market sets you apart more effectively than being a generalist, as clients seek experts who deeply understand their specific needs rather than someone who tries to do everything.
  • Building a business with strong systems, processes, and team members allows you to step away when necessary, creating a sellable asset rather than a job that depends entirely on your presence.
  • Cold calling remains a valid and effective way to build your business if you approach it with confidence, ask for permission to present your value, and focus on educating rather than just selling.
  • You become the combination of the people you spend time with and the content you consume, so carefully curate your relationships, reading material, and information sources to shape who you want to become.
  • True work-life balance means being 100% present wherever you are—fully focused on business during work hours and completely engaged with family during personal time, without guilt or distraction.

[01:20] SPEAKER_01: Thanks for having me.
[01:21] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's great to have you for sure.
[01:24] SPEAKER_01: So when we first started this conversation a few weeks ago, you read something.
[01:31] SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, give me your background, give me a bit of the taste of what it's about.
[01:36] SPEAKER_01: That's why I got excited was because of this document.
[01:41] SPEAKER_01: And so what I'd like you to do is, I know you found it, which is great.
[01:45] SPEAKER_01: So maybe you can, we can turn this around instead of you being the guest,
[01:51] SPEAKER_01: you're going to be the host who's giving us an overview of the guest.
[01:56] SPEAKER_01: So take it away, my friend.
[01:58] SPEAKER_01: I really, really, really love what you have to say about your journey.
[02:01] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, here it is.
[02:02] SPEAKER_02: So I'm going to have it posted on LinkedIn and a couple of weeks ago, I posted this.
[02:07] SPEAKER_02: So I said, how bad do you want it?
[02:09] SPEAKER_02: I'm nearing 14 years into my professional career and I feel like I'm just getting started.
[02:15] SPEAKER_02: Don't expect great things without a great effort.
[02:18] SPEAKER_02: I would not be where I am today without the help of my wife, mentors, staff, coaches,
[02:24] SPEAKER_02: courses, conferences, self-education, reading hundreds of books, listening to thousands of podcasts,
[02:32] SPEAKER_02: looking after my physical and mental health and making well over 5,000 goal goals.
[02:37] SPEAKER_02: I've always doing what I previously thought was impossible with the goal of becoming the person
[02:42] SPEAKER_02: I want to be, not the person I once was, your clients and prospects buy into who you are
[02:49] SPEAKER_02: and how you make them feel, not what's in your bag.
[02:52] SPEAKER_02: Nothing comes without an immense amount of focus effort.
[02:56] SPEAKER_02: Put in the work, nobody else will do it for you.
[02:58] SPEAKER_01: Bravo, man.
[02:59] SPEAKER_01: Bravo, Bravo.
[03:00] SPEAKER_01: And you do this through your company New Ground Financial.
[03:04] SPEAKER_01: Can you tell us a bit about New Ground?
[03:06] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, New Ground Financial is a firm that I founded in 2018, late 2018, early 2019.
[03:12] SPEAKER_02: And we specialize in helping small and medium-sized businesses with their employee benefit programs.
[03:18] SPEAKER_02: And we also help those business owners eventually as they grow from startup to growth and maturity
[03:25] SPEAKER_02: with their tax and estate planning and wealth planning.
[03:28] SPEAKER_01: So when you say that, that's a service that has tremendous competition associated with it.
[03:36] SPEAKER_01: What's your differentiator? How do you last 14 years and when I'm sure many don't?
[03:42] SPEAKER_01: So can you talk about that?
[03:44] SPEAKER_02: It's patience.
[03:47] SPEAKER_02: I'm a younger advisor in the industry,
[03:50] SPEAKER_02: still even 14 years later.
[03:51] SPEAKER_02: The average advisor in our world is somewhere between 50 and 60 years old.
[03:55] SPEAKER_02: So when I started in the industry, my sole focus was on employee benefits.
[04:00] SPEAKER_02: I spent about 110% of my time working that market.
[04:04] SPEAKER_02: And we still do spend about 80% of our time specializing in employee benefit programs.
[04:10] SPEAKER_02: And I guess what makes us different is we offer unique products and services and a view
[04:18] SPEAKER_02: of the industry that is fresh. It's a fresh perspective.
[04:23] SPEAKER_02: One of my tag lines is, we're breaking New Ground in a time more in industry and no offense to
[04:31] SPEAKER_02: some of the older advisors. There are some great advisors in the country.
[04:35] SPEAKER_02: But oftentimes what I found was they were doing the same thing year over year.
[04:41] SPEAKER_02: They may have 40 or 50 years experience, but they have the same 40 and 50 year experience year
[04:46] SPEAKER_02: over year over year. And what we've done is created an accelerated growth pattern,
[04:51] SPEAKER_02: not only for myself based on the efforts that I just discussed, but for that of any of our
[04:56] SPEAKER_02: associates. So, you know, our specialization and benefits sets us apart because most people
[05:02] SPEAKER_02: want to be generalists in this industry. And when you're a generalist, you know, you don't go to
[05:08] SPEAKER_02: your GP and ask for heart surgery and more of the heart surgeons of employee benefits in Atlanta,
[05:12] SPEAKER_01: Canada. Yeah, that's cool. I love that, I love that descriptive. So, so, um,
[05:21] SPEAKER_01: talk me through the sales approach and, and you know, part of the Canada's podcast is to
[05:27] SPEAKER_01: get advice in a way that people can take and reply to their businesses too. So, other, I think
[05:33] SPEAKER_01: other businesses that are that have a lot of competition and would really be keen to
[05:39] SPEAKER_01: the interested, okay, I get the differentiation. That makes a ton of sense to me. Now, how do you
[05:44] SPEAKER_01: ultimately get in front of somebody when to tell them about that differentiation? What's the process
[05:50] SPEAKER_02: you go through for that? Yeah, absolutely. So, at this point for myself personally, it's mostly
[05:56] SPEAKER_02: referrals. Thankfully. So, we've built a strong client base of clients as well as centers of
[06:03] SPEAKER_02: influence in our community. So, from a marketing and sales perspective, what was important to me
[06:08] SPEAKER_02: is really I built a business around a few different pillars. One was a lot of coal calls, like
[06:14] SPEAKER_02: I discussed a minute ago. We niche down in that market. We weren't scared to make calls and still
[06:26] SPEAKER_02: specific business that we had our eye on and introduce ourselves and see if there's a way we can
[06:30] SPEAKER_02: help. We still do that. And I believe that is still a valid way to build your business regardless
[06:37] SPEAKER_01: of the noise out there in today's market. What is that starting interrupt Nick? What is that
[06:44] SPEAKER_01: intro sound like when you call somebody and I say out of the blue, what can you give us a 60 second?
[06:49] SPEAKER_01: How do you get them to say, okay, yeah, talk to me. Hey, rivers, it's Nick Mombrake from Newground
[06:54] SPEAKER_02: Financial. May I ask for two minutes of your time to tell you why I'm calling and if you don't
[06:59] SPEAKER_02: want to talk after that, I'll go away. Is that okay? Beautiful. Beautiful. And just smiling
[07:04] SPEAKER_02: dialing. I love it. Smiling dialing. Yeah. Very cool. Cold referrals, or sorry, coal calls was a
[07:11] SPEAKER_02: huge pillar of our business. It still is. Now that we have a well-established block of business,
[07:16] SPEAKER_02: we continue to dig down in the relationships that we have and add value as much as we can.
[07:22] SPEAKER_02: Effectively, it's important for me when any of our clients ever hear the word,
[07:27] SPEAKER_02: root benefit, pension, life insurance, insurance in a state planning that they think of us first.
[07:35] SPEAKER_02: So I basically do everything I can to be top of mind to all of our current clients to ensure
[07:41] SPEAKER_02: that referrals are coming our way. And furthermore, developing centers of influence in the community.
[07:46] SPEAKER_02: So a lot of the planning that we do, coincides with that of legal offices and accounting offices
[07:53] SPEAKER_02: and those types of things. So I've literally called and continued to call on all of these professions
[07:58] SPEAKER_02: throughout Atlanta, Canada, as well as Ontario, and Alberta, where we are also licensed and
[08:04] SPEAKER_02: introduced myself and get to know these other professionals and teach them why we are different.
[08:09] SPEAKER_02: And as I reflect a little bit more, one of those big differentiators for us and I can speak
[08:14] SPEAKER_02: truthfully for myself is that although I do this as a career to provide for my family,
[08:22] SPEAKER_02: it's not about the money, it's not about the Ferrari, it's not about the Rolex, it's not about
[08:26] SPEAKER_02: the bigger hosts, all of that type of thing. It's about what value can we add to our potential clients?
[08:31] SPEAKER_02: How ethically and transparent can we be during that whole process? And sometimes that means I
[08:38] SPEAKER_02: don't get the sale today. It might mean I never get the sale, but it means that whomever is on the
[08:42] SPEAKER_02: end of the line, they're understanding what we do as an industry more, they're understanding
[08:49] SPEAKER_02: their situation and now they're making a more informed choice regardless of what benefit or
[08:53] SPEAKER_01: lack thereof I may have after that conversation. Yeah, very cool. It's a philosophy that you've
[08:59] SPEAKER_01: adopted with Newground Financial and I think it's all about, people ask me about branding and
[09:08] SPEAKER_01: how important is branding to an organization and I say it's everything, it's your DNA, it really,
[09:16] SPEAKER_01: and it needs the attention put to it versus just kind of think about it. You've got to really
[09:21] SPEAKER_01: put some attention to it. What do you want other people to say about you? I love that you said
[09:27] SPEAKER_01: that previously. We had a conversation a little second ago about LinkedIn. Talk about what
[09:34] SPEAKER_01: LinkedIn or any of the social media platforms that you might use in order to help you market your
[09:40] SPEAKER_02: business. Yeah, social is one of those pillars that we spend a lot of time on and LinkedIn happens
[09:45] SPEAKER_02: to be the number one that we focus on. There's hundreds of millions of business owners on LinkedIn
[09:51] SPEAKER_02: or business professionals who are there specifically to do business. So that's a huge focus of hours.
[09:57] SPEAKER_02: We do spend some time on Facebook and Instagram for different markets and things like that,
[10:02] SPEAKER_02: but ultimately LinkedIn is the big one. What we've done there is, again, try and add value as much
[10:10] SPEAKER_02: as we can. So if it's creating a bi-weekly post or even a couple of posts a day in some situations
[10:18] SPEAKER_02: in and around a certain topic to educate our audience, connecting with those centers of influence
[10:25] SPEAKER_02: again. So anyone who's connected to me on LinkedIn, I say you're either going to love what's there,
[10:30] SPEAKER_02: you're going to delete me in a few weeks, but I want people to understand and learn as much as
[10:37] SPEAKER_02: they can. And that's what we try to do as educate our audience. We are teachers in the industry.
[10:44] SPEAKER_02: And that's it. So we went on further to develop a podcast, one in which we call the interesting
[10:50] SPEAKER_02: people you meet. And the goal of that is to highlight local and national business professionals and
[10:55] SPEAKER_02: understand better understand their journey. So we used LinkedIn as a portal to share the stories
[11:00] SPEAKER_02: of others as well on our own platforms. And we feel that it does add a lot of value to our
[11:05] SPEAKER_02: community that we're building and gives a better idea and awareness of those other local business
[11:11] SPEAKER_02: owners who want to get their name out there. And we do it and sponsor it and pay for it all for them.
[11:16] SPEAKER_01: Very cool. I love it. You just came through a week of COVID. Talk to, talk to, and this is in a
[11:23] SPEAKER_01: place still to talk about COVID. It's a bit of a pedestal to talk about how do you, as an entrepreneur,
[11:28] SPEAKER_01: entrepreneur prepare for those days when you can't get out of bed, if the business needs to keep on
[11:33] SPEAKER_02: going. That's such a great question. And I was reflecting on that this morning and even last night
[11:37] SPEAKER_02: coming out of COVID, so to speak. And I think one of the things, and it's not a brag, but I think
[11:44] SPEAKER_02: as a business owner and especially as a business owner in the insurance industry, this again,
[11:49] SPEAKER_02: perhaps as a differentiator that sets us apart that might not sound so surprising to some of your
[11:54] SPEAKER_02: listeners who run businesses. But if, you know, I guess I'll go on a bit of a tangent. But in the
[12:01] SPEAKER_02: insurance industry, generally, people are really good salespeople, but they can't run a business.
[12:05] SPEAKER_02: There's very few who can. So one of the big things I thought of as I introduced Newground and created,
[12:11] SPEAKER_02: it was I wanted the people processes and policies in place to know that in the event that Nick
[12:16] SPEAKER_02: ever got hit by a bus at this thing would run as a smooth ship. That's why I didn't call it
[12:21] SPEAKER_02: Mombra Cat Financial, like I called it Newground Financial. Right. I wanted a saleable,
[12:25] SPEAKER_02: buildable asset that could run on its own. So that's kind of what we created pre COVID. COVID helped,
[12:33] SPEAKER_02: it kind of made me look smart, but I didn't expect that happening. So last last week, I'm at the gym.
[12:39] SPEAKER_02: I have one of the best gym days of my year, and I measured that. So I knew for sure. And I get a
[12:46] SPEAKER_02: text from my wife who goes, hey, Nick, I just tested positive for COVID. I was like, oh, wow,
[12:52] SPEAKER_02: I feel great and went home and then sure enough the next morning, I'm rocked with it. So, you know,
[12:58] SPEAKER_02: how did I manage through that time? Well, my business, I can literally stop working today and come
[13:04] SPEAKER_02: back in a couple of weeks and it will still do its thing. You know, we've digitized our business
[13:10] SPEAKER_02: as much as we can. I have an amazing staff of sales, another sales associate, an amazing
[13:16] SPEAKER_02: administrator who's always there when I'm not to make sure that this is a true and tried and tested
[13:23] SPEAKER_02: business and not just one guy trying to, you know, run around with his head cut off. Yeah, I love
[13:28] SPEAKER_01: that. What do you say to the one guy trying to run around with his head cut off? Because I'd say,
[13:33] SPEAKER_01: yeah, sorry, because they exist. So for those new guys, yeah, and talking if you talk about
[13:41] SPEAKER_01: it in general, it's because there's a lot of solo printers out there. Absolutely. I'd say, yeah.
[14:05] SPEAKER_02: You got to define the lifestyle that you want to create by being an entrepreneur and
[14:11] SPEAKER_02: if running around and being busy, busy, busy all day makes you feel really good and you go home
[14:16] SPEAKER_02: and you sleep well at night and your marriage is awesome and your kids love you and you get lots of
[14:20] SPEAKER_02: money in the bank, then go for it. That doesn't work for me. So, you know, if you're in that position,
[14:28] SPEAKER_02: know that one, there's hope you can get out of it. You're probably going to have to find a
[14:34] SPEAKER_02: business coach. You're probably going to have to find a mentor and maybe even pick up a couple
[14:39] SPEAKER_02: of books. Ultimately, you become what you read and who you hang out with. So if you're stuck in that
[14:44] SPEAKER_02: little spot and you feel like you're running around and you're running an amazing business, you have
[14:48] SPEAKER_02: a great product or great service, but you're you know, you're bagged at the end of the day and
[14:54] SPEAKER_02: wondering, is this what entrepreneurship really is? In some days, it is, but there is an opportunity
[15:01] SPEAKER_02: to create systems. Read the book called The E-Meth by Michael Gerber. That's a great start.
[15:06] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely. And there's a million that I could recommend. Reach out to me. I'd be glad to
[15:10] SPEAKER_02: share five or 10 minutes with you and give you a couple of ideas on what has helped me systematize
[15:15] SPEAKER_02: my business to allow me to step away without having to stress out about it. So I'm going to take a
[15:24] SPEAKER_01: mean where how do people reach out and we're going to continue our conversation, but how do people
[15:28] SPEAKER_02: get a hold of you? Yeah, sure. You can find us. The best way would be to connect with me on LinkedIn.
[15:33] SPEAKER_02: So it's Nick, Mom Burkett, M-O-M-B-O-U-R-Q-U-E-T-T-E. You can find me on LinkedIn or Nick at NewgroundFinancial.com
[15:43] SPEAKER_02: or you can check out our website at www.NewGroundFinancial.com. And you can book a time with me right there.
[15:50] SPEAKER_01: We're out there. Love it, love it. Talk about the decision to move beyond Atlanta, Canada,
[15:57] SPEAKER_01: to Ontario and Alberta. Yes. Can you talk to me about that decision?
[16:03] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was one like the business. I kind of had this personality where I build it before
[16:12] SPEAKER_02: it needs to happen. So I do that with my personal finances. I do that with a lot of things in my
[16:17] SPEAKER_02: life. I did that with COVID. I got an extremely good shape over the summer. I got hit with COVID.
[16:22] SPEAKER_02: It only lasted a few days in Hey, I'm great. Now I don't know if that's the same case for everyone,
[16:26] SPEAKER_02: but I did that with my business. So when we launched NewgroundFinancial, I thought to myself,
[16:33] SPEAKER_02: I want it to be a national firm at some point. COVID hit and a lot of pessimism was created,
[16:40] SPEAKER_02: a lot of frustration, a lot of fear, a lot of scarcity for some business owners. And for me at that
[16:45] SPEAKER_02: time, I said, what's the opportunity here? I thought, well, the industry changed overnight,
[16:51] SPEAKER_02: basically prior to COVID. Rivers, I would have had to drive to see you and get a wedding signature,
[16:57] SPEAKER_02: basically on everything we do to legally buy documents and those types of things in the insurance
[17:03] SPEAKER_02: industry. When COVID happened, the insurance carriers changed their processes quick as they could
[17:08] SPEAKER_02: to implement Adobe sign and Docu sign and these types of things where now we can work digitally,
[17:14] SPEAKER_02: we can work from a distance using Zoom, using Microsoft Teams, etc. And that was the opportunity
[17:20] SPEAKER_02: that I seen. I said, listen, I'm in a great market here. I'd love Atlanta, Canada. I love everything
[17:26] SPEAKER_02: that the people have to offer, but I also know that there's millions of more people in Canada,
[17:31] SPEAKER_02: in particular in Ontario and at West. So when COVID hit, I said, this is it. We're going to go make
[17:37] SPEAKER_02: a digital presence in these other provinces. We don't have physical boots on the ground there. We
[17:42] SPEAKER_02: are registered corporation, etc. All the legalities are fine. But now I said, great, here's an
[17:49] SPEAKER_02: opportunity to market digitally, to build our presence in other provinces without physically having
[17:53] SPEAKER_02: to be there every day. So I have COVID to thank for that. And that's why I made that decision.
[17:59] SPEAKER_01: And where do you have you been able to take the systems you have in Atlanta, Canada and just duplicate
[18:06] SPEAKER_01: them in Ontario or in Alberta, whereas there was a rating different that you had to do.
[18:10] SPEAKER_02: That's a great question. Absolutely. So I would say the systems themselves, yeah, the tonality,
[18:16] SPEAKER_02: the process, a little different things, different, you know, West. My experience here in Atlanta,
[18:25] SPEAKER_02: Canada is that generally everyone wants to get to know you. Perhaps a handshake at some point
[18:30] SPEAKER_02: before we're going to do business. It still exists. There's certainly some old liars that don't live in,
[18:35] SPEAKER_02: you know, don't adhere to that anymore. But I found and realized when I'm working in Ontario and
[18:41] SPEAKER_02: Alberta that those communities are are quick on their toes, not going to hesitate to make a
[18:50] SPEAKER_02: decision if it makes a lot of sense for them and their employees and their business and not I do
[18:54] SPEAKER_02: appreciate. So, you know, the tonality has had to change when we're dealing in those other
[19:01] SPEAKER_01: provinces relative to here in Atlanta, Canada. Interesting. So you've talked a few times about your
[19:07] SPEAKER_01: family. You have kids, you have your life partner, your wife. How do you how do you balance that off?
[19:18] SPEAKER_01: It's funny. I don't know if it's funny, but Richard Branson is a big mentor for me and he
[19:24] SPEAKER_01: he says it's not work life balance. It's life balance. Work is just a part of it. Personal is just
[19:30] SPEAKER_01: part. How do you do that strategically with what it is that you're bringing to the growth of
[19:38] SPEAKER_01: the new ground, but also the growth of your family? Yeah, that's that's an amazing question and I
[19:43] SPEAKER_02: would have to agree with Richard on that. I think that we're either, you know, throughout the
[19:48] SPEAKER_02: 24 hours in our day, we're either 100% in our business or hopefully 100% with your family.
[19:54] SPEAKER_02: And ultimately that that's my goal when when I'm at one or the other, that's where I am.
[20:01] SPEAKER_02: You know, so I've I've implemented a four day work week for myself. I only work on day to Thursday.
[20:08] SPEAKER_02: Friday's I'm off. It allows me to just decompress a bit when my kids were younger. It allowed me to
[20:15] SPEAKER_02: hang out with them a bit more, but now they're in school and daycare and stuff. So that that Friday has
[20:21] SPEAKER_02: been really, really good to me, allowing me to kind of decompress and be prepared to enter into
[20:27] SPEAKER_02: the weekend with my family and totally focus with them. I try not to and if and rarely bring work
[20:34] SPEAKER_02: home with me physically and or mentally. It's not perfect. Last week was an absolute nightmare.
[20:43] SPEAKER_02: Trying to manage that even though I was able to pause despite all the things I said, you know,
[20:47] SPEAKER_02: it's still running through your mind and and you grow into that. But I think the most important tip
[20:53] SPEAKER_02: I would give to any business owner is just to make sure that when you're at work, make sure you're
[20:57] SPEAKER_02: at work and you're not fooling around with other stuff and when you're home, make sure you're home
[21:01] SPEAKER_02: and you're with your family and your present for your partner, for your children, for whomever.
[21:07] SPEAKER_02: And then what I find personally is if I can do that when I get up the next day and arrive at work,
[21:15] SPEAKER_02: I don't feel guilty. I feel motivated and excited to continue and build my firm.
[21:21] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love it. So talk about, talk about Atlantic Canada and you know why,
[21:30] SPEAKER_01: when you talked about loving it there, you talked about doing obviously doing business there,
[21:37] SPEAKER_01: is what's the business support ecosystem like for you?
[21:41] SPEAKER_02: I think I'm a bit of a lone wolf to be honest, rivers. I know I gotta be honest with you.
[21:48] SPEAKER_02: I think it's there. I think it's there if you need it. I know there's a bunch of communities and
[21:54] SPEAKER_02: hubs and whatnot which support startups and entrepreneurs. I'm in a really weird industry where it's
[22:01] SPEAKER_02: there's not any of those existing in my opinion from the outside looking in and from what the
[22:07] SPEAKER_02: doors I've knocked on, not so supportive of what we do because there's a bit of a lack of understanding
[22:13] SPEAKER_02: of what goes on in our world and the struggles and challenges and problems and needs and frustrations
[22:19] SPEAKER_02: we go through every day, in my sector. And then yeah, and in our industry, it's so highly
[22:27] SPEAKER_02: competitive that I think everyone's scared to talk to each other, which I'm not. You'll see I share
[22:31] SPEAKER_02: tips and tricks online about what I do and how I serve, but there's a bit of a scarcity mentality
[22:37] SPEAKER_02: in my industry sometimes in which folks don't want to share. And that's frustrating and that's kind
[22:43] SPEAKER_02: of what led me to be honestly, but kind of do my own thing and look to two mentors like
[22:49] SPEAKER_02: Richard Branson or whomever that may be. I am fortunate enough to have an amazing mentor
[22:55] SPEAKER_02: who's helped me in my past number of years and he remains anonymous and he wants to be kept that
[23:00] SPEAKER_02: way, but outside of him, it's kind of me and my books and my own attitude and optimism that have,
[23:07] SPEAKER_01: you know, helped grow. Very cool, man. I love that answer. I love it. Yeah. Talk about the future.
[23:13] SPEAKER_02: What's the next couple of years like for you? Yeah, the next couple of years are I'm very excited
[23:18] SPEAKER_02: to see what's what's going on. I think our penetration and growth across the country is something
[23:24] SPEAKER_02: I'm very excited about learning and understanding those new markets, perhaps adding to our
[23:30] SPEAKER_02: sales team in those those markets would would be amazing having some physical boots on the ground
[23:35] SPEAKER_02: there. We are still a pretty relatively small firm. We've got one full time assistant myself and
[23:43] SPEAKER_02: a full time associate at this point a couple of years in here to the business. So my three to five
[23:49] SPEAKER_02: year goal would be to have at minimum five full time sales associates with with a couple more
[23:55] SPEAKER_02: support people to help us spread our message and service across the country. Yeah, across the
[24:01] SPEAKER_01: country. I'm going to be interested in when you're going to go to BC and Manitoba and so on.
[24:07] SPEAKER_02: Is that part of the play? Absolutely. Yeah, I would say every province and territory here in the
[24:12] SPEAKER_02: next few years outside of Quebec because their licensing is a little different and I don't speak
[24:17] SPEAKER_02: very good French despite my last name. So it's a bit of a lost cause for me. I am a huge
[24:22] SPEAKER_01: Habs fan though. So any excuse to go. I'm more of a football guy these days and I am a hockey guy
[24:31] SPEAKER_01: but when I have to be it definitely for the definitely. Absolutely. So how many children do you have?
[24:39] SPEAKER_01: I have three children. Three children. If they were all gathered around right now and you could
[24:44] SPEAKER_01: tell them one piece of advice that they needed to focus in on in order to start their
[24:52] SPEAKER_01: own business whatever that might happen to be done necessarily in the financial services world
[24:56] SPEAKER_02: will be that piece of advice be. Well, I kind of said it earlier and it's a monitor that I live by
[25:02] SPEAKER_02: and think about a lot and it's you become the people you hang out with in the books you read
[25:06] SPEAKER_02: and the stay-in-age perhaps the videos you watch. So I really think that you know protecting our mind
[25:16] SPEAKER_02: and from the inflow of information from wherever that is is one of the hardest
[25:22] SPEAKER_02: things we can do and one of the most one of the best things we can do if we can learn to control
[25:28] SPEAKER_02: the distractions and the noise and focus on what matters most right now we can do anything we want.
[25:36] SPEAKER_02: So again we got to watch out who we hang around with because we'll get the results
[25:41] SPEAKER_02: and and second we we got to watch what we read and the information we consume again it will
[25:48] SPEAKER_01: make who we are and our and our results. I love it. I love it so true so true. Well Nick this has
[25:55] SPEAKER_01: been an amazing conversation it's been concise it's been it's been wrapped up nicely and with a bow
[26:01] SPEAKER_01: and is there anything that left that you wanted to talk on maybe you can just say again one more
[26:07] SPEAKER_01: time how people get in touch with you again because that's part of the part of the advantage of
[26:12] SPEAKER_01: being on our on our podcast but if there's anything else that you'd like to say to go ahead.
[26:15] SPEAKER_02: Yeah absolutely I just want to if if you're an entrepreneur listening to this or or aspiring
[26:21] SPEAKER_02: to be one I congratulate you the road is it can be long sometimes but it's so darn rewarding if
[26:28] SPEAKER_02: you put in the efforts and then again surround yourself with the right people so congratulations to
[26:33] SPEAKER_02: anyone who's you know pulled the trigger and done it or if you're considering it you know take
[26:38] SPEAKER_02: those calculated steps but in in a few short years I hope that like me and others you'll be
[26:45] SPEAKER_02: happier healthier you know and and feeling a lot better because of that choice you made
[26:50] SPEAKER_02: I find once you get that bug in your gut and you feel it and you get that itch you can't scratch it
