[01:02] SPEAKER_02: but I think that at some point after I moved to Canada,
[01:07] SPEAKER_02: I was like, I really want to make a big difference
[01:10] SPEAKER_02: in the wellness industry and I didn't really see how to do that
[01:16] SPEAKER_02: working for someone else and I was like, well, okay, this is it.
[01:20] SPEAKER_02: I'm going to be the employer.
[01:23] SPEAKER_02: I'm going to be the one.
[01:23] SPEAKER_02: And so I think that's really it at the end of the day.
[01:26] SPEAKER_02: This is the way that I saw I could make the biggest impact
[01:29] SPEAKER_02: and so far seems to be working.
[01:33] SPEAKER_01: Great. So tell us about the Beyond Food Program.
[01:37] SPEAKER_02: Yeah. So Beyond Food Program is the my flagship program
[01:41] SPEAKER_02: and my company get real to heal.
[01:44] SPEAKER_02: And it kind of serves two functions.
[01:47] SPEAKER_02: One, it helps either groups or individuals to
[01:52] SPEAKER_02: almost unlearn a lot of the crap that we pick up through diet culture
[01:58] SPEAKER_02: and understand really how to put together a way of eating that makes sense for
[02:04] SPEAKER_02: their body, their lifestyle, their goals, but a really custom way to approach nutrition.
[02:11] SPEAKER_02: And the other thing it does is it's actually a really great platform
[02:14] SPEAKER_02: for other nutritionists and practitioners to help clients.
[02:19] SPEAKER_02: Because a lot of that's a big challenge for nutritionists.
[02:22] SPEAKER_02: A lot of the time right out of school is how do I actually help someone
[02:25] SPEAKER_02: and help them see results and help them be successful and help myself be successful.
[02:30] SPEAKER_02: And it's really useful to have a structured program.
[02:33] SPEAKER_01: So that's essentially what it does.
[02:35] SPEAKER_01: So not only do you serve customers but you also serve practitioner
[02:38] SPEAKER_01: to help them get started.
[02:40] SPEAKER_01: Exactly. Exactly.
[02:42] SPEAKER_02: Because it's like that's one of the things that when I started in nutrition school
[02:46] SPEAKER_02: or after nutrition school rather, it really broke my heart because a lot of people get kind
[02:52] SPEAKER_02: of disillusioned with what it takes to build a practice and to actually help people, coach people
[02:59] SPEAKER_02: through the process of dealing with their food. And so I had created this program and I was like
[03:05] SPEAKER_02: there's no reason why I'm the only person who can use this.
[03:10] SPEAKER_01: And what's your vision now that you have, you know, you have practitioners working with you,
[03:14] SPEAKER_01: working with their clients, you know, like where do you see yourself in a couple of years
[03:20] SPEAKER_01: for in the next few months for yourself and for your business?
[03:23] SPEAKER_02: I think especially with the last couple of months what's been happening
[03:28] SPEAKER_02: with COVID-19, there's been a lot of light shed on I think how we approach health and
[03:38] SPEAKER_02: the problems that exist there. And I'll speak for Canada.
[03:42] SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you know, but only 3% of our budgets, I can't remember if that's provincial or
[03:49] SPEAKER_02: or in the country, but only 3% goes to prevention. But when you look at what it's going to take to
[03:56] SPEAKER_02: kind of turn around and really support people's wellness, not just health or like disease management,
[04:03] SPEAKER_02: but their wellness, their quality of life, their ability to live a full life for the longest
[04:09] SPEAKER_02: amount possible, that's going to take a real, a real 180 and having 97% of our budget going towards
[04:17] SPEAKER_02: prevention and a very small percentage going towards, you know, disease management. And so,
[04:23] SPEAKER_02: you know, as my team grows and as my company grows, that's 100% what I'm going for is really
[04:30] SPEAKER_02: teaching people, you know, individually families, but also at the community level, the country level,
[04:37] SPEAKER_02: teaching people how to overhaul their health and really focus on prevention.
[04:42] SPEAKER_01: That's awesome. That's awesome. And like, since you're a nutritional practitioner, you're building
[04:48] SPEAKER_01: this business, and you're an entrepreneur, you know, like you're really running this. So like,
[04:52] SPEAKER_01: what does the day in Mollie Sanders looks like to be productive, to do it all, to be able to support
[04:58] SPEAKER_02: all these people? That's a really good question. And it's interesting because it's a very different
[05:04] SPEAKER_02: way of living than the nine to five, because I think a lot more of my energy goes towards making
[05:10] SPEAKER_02: sure, you know, I'm in a good headspace, you know, I'm in a place where I can be creative. I do a lot
[05:17] SPEAKER_02: of content. So like videos and social media and stuff like that, but it's really hard to get on
[05:22] SPEAKER_02: video when you're feeling like crap about about yourself or about your business or whatever. So,
[05:27] SPEAKER_02: most mornings, you know, I work out in the mornings, I recently started running, I drink a lot of
[05:33] SPEAKER_02: water, a lot of tea, but I spend a good amount of time planning my day looking at what are the
[05:40] SPEAKER_02: things that I need to get accomplished? What are the big projects that are going on that I need to
[05:44] SPEAKER_02: make way on? Who are the people I need to get in touch with? But before I do any of my to-do lists,
[05:50] SPEAKER_02: I always start with what do I need? What do I need to have a great day here? And it does include,
[05:57] SPEAKER_02: you know, like meditating or reading, and a big fan of audiobooks. So I listen to an audiobook,
[06:01] SPEAKER_02: almost every morning before I start doing any kind of work. And basically, I make sure I have
[06:07] SPEAKER_02: like two or three hours to myself in the morning, and that'll usually end up being a great day
[06:14] SPEAKER_02: versus kind of jumping right into work when I wake up, which is really easy to do when you're
[06:18] SPEAKER_02: an entrepreneur and you have your running to do lists constantly in your head. And I still do that
[06:23] SPEAKER_02: sometimes, but my great days are when I spend a few hours to myself on myself. And talking about
[06:29] SPEAKER_01: audiobooks, like, is there an audiobook that you would like to share with people that you think,
[06:34] SPEAKER_01: like, this is valuable and it really helps me to kickstart my day? A hundred percent.
[06:38] SPEAKER_02: I have two books that I'm, I would say I'm trying to master this year. One is You Are a Badass
[06:46] SPEAKER_02: at Making Money by Jensen Chero. And I think even if you don't feel like you have anything going
[06:52] SPEAKER_02: on about money, just the way she approaches life and how you how you approach business is awesome.
[07:00] SPEAKER_02: I probably listen to that book hundreds of times and I always get something new. And the second one
[07:06] SPEAKER_02: is James Clear, Atomic Habits. And for anyone who I think has big dreams, big goals in business or
[07:16] SPEAKER_02: otherwise and has kind of started and stopped and started and stopped, it's such an amazing book to
[07:23] SPEAKER_02: help you deal with procrastination in a way that's easy, that's simple, that makes sense.
[07:30] SPEAKER_02: And he has this one quote, he says, you don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the
[07:35] SPEAKER_02: level of your systems. And so one of the reasons I love that book is because he's all about making
[07:44] SPEAKER_02: productivity easy and accessible and exciting and something that you don't have to kind of talk
[07:51] SPEAKER_02: yourself into over and over and over again. And I've never really seen anybody or read anything that
[07:57] SPEAKER_01: does that. So it's a phenomenal book. And really like productivity and being able to do it all and
[08:04] SPEAKER_01: feel like you can do it all is, you know, the heart of being an entrepreneur. So I can definitely see
[08:09] SPEAKER_02: why it impacts your day-to-day life. Totally. And I think especially at the beginning and especially
[08:16] SPEAKER_02: for people who are small operations where you kind of have to be everything, it's really easy to
[08:23] SPEAKER_02: burn out and it's really easy to work, you know, 60, 80, 100 hour weeks. But then it's like,
[08:32] SPEAKER_02: that's not really why you wanted to be an entrepreneur in the first place, right? There's freedom that
[08:37] SPEAKER_02: comes with being an entrepreneur and being able to work when you want and where you want. But it
[08:43] SPEAKER_02: takes some concerted effort to organize your life in a way where that's actually doable. And
[08:50] SPEAKER_02: you're still making money and you're still able to run the company. And so I think for anyone who
[08:54] SPEAKER_02: wants that or who is working towards that, that's like a must, that book is a must.

[09:20] SPEAKER_01: you know, sometimes we have like places or you know restaurants or even like cities we like to go
[09:27] SPEAKER_01: to actually recharge, think about the business. Like you your home is in Toronto, but like where
[09:33] SPEAKER_01: in the world are where do you like to go to recharge and think about your business and find your
[09:37] SPEAKER_02: creative space? I mean nature is always healing. So I think when I'm when I'm really stuck,
[09:47] SPEAKER_02: I like to I like to find water. I love being by rivers, but any water is fine. Rivers are my
[09:52] SPEAKER_02: preference where you can hear hear the water, put your feet in where it's fresh and clean. But I
[09:58] SPEAKER_02: think there's something about about getting out of the city and out of your space and near something
[10:05] SPEAKER_02: that's I don't know powerful. I think rivers are so powerful that I always come back with an
[10:12] SPEAKER_02: immense amount of clarity. So I'm sure a lot of people are dealing with this right now with the
[10:18] SPEAKER_02: COVID and working from home. But it's like when you work where you eat, where you sleep, where you
[10:24] SPEAKER_02: watch TV, I find that clutter is my mind very quickly. So I'm really trying to not work at home and
[10:32] SPEAKER_02: have my home just be its own space and you know I'll try and work outside or now that the the
[10:38] SPEAKER_02: patios are open work on a patio or something. But when I need to recharge I need to leave my house.
[10:44] SPEAKER_01: Does it really matter where to where I go but I need to leave my house? And since since since I know
[10:50] SPEAKER_01: you, I know that one of the things that the business and the entrepreneurial life brought to you
[10:57] SPEAKER_01: is being able to work from anywhere. Like what's your dream about this or what's your vision or
[11:02] SPEAKER_02: why is that so important to you? Well I think for me I've always wanted to like travel around
[11:11] SPEAKER_02: the United States but not like for a weekend not even for a week because I think it takes time
[11:18] SPEAKER_02: to experience a place and to start to understand its personality and its nuances that you just can't
[11:25] SPEAKER_02: do in a small amount of time. And so I want that freedom. I want to be able to pick up and go
[11:32] SPEAKER_02: somewhere for a month or two months or the summer and yeah get a chance to to live like the locals
[11:40] SPEAKER_02: do is to do that first in the United States but then across the world. And why not right? You have
[11:46] SPEAKER_01: one life. Exactly and we hear it a lot right? Like what like breaking the 9 to 5 is very different.
[11:53] SPEAKER_01: Yes it's a lot of responsibilities but at the same time it brings a feeling of freedom that like you
[11:57] SPEAKER_01: can do anything from anywhere as you want. So you're the one with the size. Yeah and I think
[12:05] SPEAKER_02: I've always been this way where I thought it was so backwards to wait until I'm like in my 60s
[12:12] SPEAKER_02: or whatever and retiring to go and travel the world. I'll say why would I why would I wait for
[12:18] SPEAKER_02: in other 30 years to do that? And I always thought that way so I'm like putting the pieces in
[12:25] SPEAKER_02: in place to be able to do that and I actually already did it so you know doing that more.
[12:31] SPEAKER_01: That's great. Well Molly the interview is always like always too short and it's coming close
[12:36] SPEAKER_01: to an end but like is there something you'd like to share with people listening about you,
[12:41] SPEAKER_01: about your practice, about something that you learn as an entrepreneur that could make a difference
[12:45] SPEAKER_02: for them? I think a couple of things. Number one you can never have too many mentors. I think I have
[12:52] SPEAKER_02: like a running list of 12 to 15 people that when I'm kind of stuck in my you know my own head.
[13:01] SPEAKER_02: I can just kind of run through the list. You can never have too many mentors but I think for people
[13:05] SPEAKER_02: who are starting out especially I read a couple of months ago that there's this period between 18
[13:10] SPEAKER_02: months and three years which is where I'm at. That's kind of a a maker break point for a lot of
[13:17] SPEAKER_02: businesses whether you're brick and mortar or or online and so for anyone who's in that point
[13:25] SPEAKER_02: keep going it'll be totally worth it and I think when I heard that and I I felt like I was
[13:31] SPEAKER_02: struggling I was it gave me comfort so I was like oh this is this is right I'm in the right spot
[13:37] SPEAKER_02: this is totally normal this is all gonna work out this is the this is the proven trajectory of
[13:44] SPEAKER_02: business and it's it's all okay and it's all awesome so give yourself some space mentor up and
[13:50] SPEAKER_01: you'll be fine. Awesome well thanks Molly for for for all of your of your openness in this
