[00:00] SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Canada's podcast, the number one podcast for entrepreneurs by
[00:06] SPEAKER_00: entrepreneurs. Hi, this is Angela Faye from Canada's podcast. Super excited to
[00:11] SPEAKER_00: welcome Morgan Brown from Oakland Realty from beautiful Vancouver and
[00:17] SPEAKER_00: British Columbia Morgan welcome. Thank you so much, Angela for having me on this
[00:23] SPEAKER_00: amazing podcast, local cool podcast. Local go across Canada, the
[00:29] SPEAKER_00: moment. Amazing opportunities like entrepreneurs from across the country doing
[00:35] SPEAKER_00: amazing things, making it happen. You are doing great things. You are doing
[00:39] SPEAKER_00: great things. Well, and speaking of great things, I don't necessarily love to
[00:45] SPEAKER_00: put tags on things, but sometimes external
[00:48] SPEAKER_00: you know, acknowledgement on success just helps people put in context just the
[00:56] SPEAKER_00: work that's been done for an entrepreneur and and I'm pleased to reinforce the
[01:01] SPEAKER_00: fact that Morgan is on the real estate council at Forbes and most recently got
[01:08] SPEAKER_00: the Globe and Mail, got mentioned by the Globe and Mail as one of the top
[01:13] SPEAKER_00: 400 growing companies in Canada. So we are not just talking to anybody
[01:17] SPEAKER_00: Morgan, it's so great to have you. Thank you. Tell me a little bit about your
[01:21] SPEAKER_00: entrepreneurial journey. Yeah, thank you. It's been a ride. It's been a great ride.
[01:28] SPEAKER_00: And I think, you know, when you say those two those two points, I have to say that
[01:32] SPEAKER_00: that's really given to us by our incredible people at Oakwyn and the
[01:37] SPEAKER_00: really the people that make it run, the staff and all the the realtors putting
[01:42] SPEAKER_00: their incredible best efforts at for their clients and serving the Vancouver
[01:46] SPEAKER_00: real estate market. So brought to those people that I
[01:51] SPEAKER_00: get for all people that have supported that. But yeah, I know thank you for
[01:55] SPEAKER_00: having me. I'm obviously so excited to be on a podcast with this beautiful woman.
[02:00] SPEAKER_00: I get to see you on Zoom. So I have to get to do that. And I think what's so
[02:05] SPEAKER_00: nice is that you guys are supporting entrepreneurs and I'm as supportive as
[02:11] SPEAKER_00: you guys are with that really supporting people's dreams, which is really key.
[02:16] SPEAKER_00: But yes, I mean, I started to be an entrepreneur when I was 21 years old. I think it was always
[02:22] SPEAKER_00: kind of in my mindset and my backyard in my back mind. And and I started my real estate journey
[02:29] SPEAKER_00: when I was, yeah, 21 years old in Vancouver, selling real estate and being a realtor out on the
[02:36] SPEAKER_00: field in Vancouver, West East, downtown, North Bend, all the kind of local spaces. And then it's
[02:42] SPEAKER_00: now kind of pushed me into me and my two partners opening up Oakland Realty in Greater Vancouver.
[02:50] SPEAKER_00: And now I'm the president and one of the co-founders there. So yeah, it's been a good journey.
[02:55] SPEAKER_00: Well, and in and then, you know, seven years grow if you started with a team of 35,
[03:01] SPEAKER_00: even to get to 35, I'm a little bit blown away on on how how that happened. But I mean,
[03:07] SPEAKER_00: you're now at 440 plus agents. 440, that's right. 440. That's that's beyond small business at the
[03:16] SPEAKER_00: moment. That's that's that's that's quite an impact. And Oakland is an independent brand and name,
[03:22] SPEAKER_00: which is very intriguing to me. Tell me a little bit about how that growth has been manned.
[03:27] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, it's been such a journey. I think with me and my partners, we we all came from big
[03:33] SPEAKER_00: brokerages, you know, to name a few remax, the Donald C21, so larger brokerages. And I think
[03:42] SPEAKER_00: that was the best learning experience for us to know that there was there was definitely need
[03:47] SPEAKER_00: of change in our industry, not just in the service level, but really to, you know, keep on breaking
[03:53] SPEAKER_00: the boundary and building incredible ceilings of what agent should be doing for their clients
[04:00] SPEAKER_00: and how they should be serving them. So we started the journey and it's very fun. It's one of my
[04:07] SPEAKER_00: partners. She has a son and he's seven years old. And I just like look at him and that's
[04:12] SPEAKER_00: actually right when we started it. It's your time stamp. He's my time stamp.
[04:17] SPEAKER_00: They saw him in a wedding this weekend. I was like, this is gonna be a teenager before I know it.
[04:23] SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it's been it's been a journey with with us starting at 35 agents and we were really
[04:28] SPEAKER_00: um a small small brokerage and I think our biggest goal was to really build kind of a bottom
[04:38] SPEAKER_00: up structure. And what I mean by that is something that is going to serve, educate and give back to
[04:45] SPEAKER_00: our community in a really high level, but also work with incredible collaborative aligned,
[04:53] SPEAKER_00: you know, mindset and agents so that we could, you know, really make a mark in Vancouver real estate.
[05:00] SPEAKER_00: So it's been excellent. And then of course it escalated offices after office after office.
[05:06] SPEAKER_00: And what's so nice is when you say 440 agents, I still feel like it's 100 agents. I still know
[05:14] SPEAKER_00: everyone by name and we are still very close group of close group within our offices, which is great.
[05:22] SPEAKER_00: And you have how many offices? So we have five offices. Okay. And they're all in greater Vancouver.
[05:27] SPEAKER_00: All in greater Vancouver. Yeah. So one in um Sean, I see, which is 16th and oh, we have one downtown
[05:32] SPEAKER_00: North Vancouver, uh, Cooquit Lem, which is, you know, Cooquit Em right there and then Olympic Village,
[05:38] SPEAKER_00: our Olympic Village office. So and I just from knowing how the impact that you make in Vancouver
[05:45] SPEAKER_00: and the sides of your business, but also the intel that you have as far as, you know, the businesses
[05:51] SPEAKER_00: and the, and the residents that are moving and, and circulating within Vancouver, I think is an amazing
[05:56] SPEAKER_00: intelligence. So I'm, I'm, I'm still professing you as sort of my Vancouver intel. You know what?
[06:03] SPEAKER_00: I, I like that. I like that. I'm gonna have to use that. I like it. I like it.
[06:07] SPEAKER_00: So my good ideas. Yeah. If anybody wants to know anything about Vancouver, talk to Morgan first.
[06:12] SPEAKER_00: Speaking of what do you, what do you, what do you see happening in Vancouver? What are some of the
[06:16] SPEAKER_00: trends and, and you know, Vancouver is such a beautiful place to live. What do you think is
[06:21] SPEAKER_00: happening in Vancouver that's not helping it happening anywhere else?
[06:25] SPEAKER_00: Well, Vancouver, I think is, you know, I was mentioning that, you know, one of the big things with
[06:30] SPEAKER_00: Vancouver is that we have, you know, our affordability is talked about all over the world.
[06:35] SPEAKER_00: So, um, and really that comes down to supply and demand. It really comes down to Vancouver still
[06:40] SPEAKER_00: wanting to be one of the most desired places to live. And I think one of the biggest things that
[06:46] SPEAKER_00: we're seeing, and I think we have been saved the last five, six years is that we're kind of landlocked.
[06:52] SPEAKER_00: You know, we're really put in with all these the mountains and the oceans and obviously the states.
[06:56] SPEAKER_00: So we have only a certain amount of land that we can really build on. And that's what has caused
[07:03] SPEAKER_00: vertical living, which is, you know, right in our downtown core all the way through to a
[07:07] SPEAKER_00: little bit diligent, more and more adding to the east side, but more and more people wanting to kind
[07:12] SPEAKER_00: migrate into the city. And obviously with COVID, it has changed a lot. We are seeing a lot of people
[07:20] SPEAKER_00: leaving kind of that two-bedroom, one bedroom and moving into kind of wanting a more of an outdoor
[07:25] SPEAKER_00: space, whether that's detached and that's what we're seeing the most right now is our market rising
[07:31] SPEAKER_00: in detached market and our strata or, you know, one bedroom's two bedrooms in downtown has kind
[07:37] SPEAKER_00: deflated a little bit. So that being said, we have seen in the last three months, especially in the
[07:44] SPEAKER_00: last two months, the market has risen and we have a real optimistic that it will continue to do that
[07:51] SPEAKER_00: kind of for during, even during with COVID, which is incredible, right? Yeah, absolutely. We are
[07:56] SPEAKER_00: seeing prices kind of staying stable and nothing kind of dropping down, you know, below that five
[08:02] SPEAKER_00: percent, which is great. And in your, we were talking about sort of Vancouver being compared to,
[08:07] SPEAKER_00: you know, the likes of Hong Kong and Sydney, Australia, as, you know, some of the more expensive cities,
[08:12] SPEAKER_00: but you can't just have that kind of reputation without being one of the most desirable cities
[08:17] SPEAKER_00: to live in the world. So what do you think makes Vancouver stand out? Oh, that's such a, I feel like
[08:23] SPEAKER_00: the biggest thing biggest stand out is obviously our back drop, right? So obviously our city and where
[08:29] SPEAKER_00: it is, you know, I have tons of clients that come in from all over Canada, but also the states.
[08:35] SPEAKER_00: And obviously Asia, I ran a lot of people have moved and migrated this way. And what I'm finding
[08:42] SPEAKER_00: is a lot of people are really wanting to be right in the core, be into a space where they can actually go,
[08:48] SPEAKER_00: you know, 45 minutes away to go to Bowen Island or Sunshine Coast, and they can go drive up to
[08:54] SPEAKER_00: Whistler within two hours, go to Nearamada, go to, you know, Kelone and five hours. So being able to be,
[09:00] SPEAKER_00: it kind of have a lot of different alternatives, different things to go to is going to, is a luxury,
[09:06] SPEAKER_00: I think, for a lot of people. And it will continue, right? So, and even the state's going down to Seattle
[09:12] SPEAKER_00: in two hours. So there is this convenience with end and the luxury of being able to be in different
[09:19] SPEAKER_00: places while you live in the central city. That's one. And two, which I've mentioned, you're right.
[09:26] SPEAKER_00: You know, I think we, you know, we see that it is expensive to live in the city and what I was
[09:32] SPEAKER_00: mentioning to you about Sydney and Hong Kong and the likes of being in that, you know, pie price point.
[09:38] SPEAKER_00: What I have noticed is that people are coming for specific things like, you know, education is a
[09:44] SPEAKER_00: huge one. We have the best education in our city. Our culinary culture is, is beyond really,
[09:50] SPEAKER_00: it's, it's up there with Toronto. And I think I would say it's better. Sorry guys. Toronto,
[09:57] SPEAKER_00: you know, awesome. Yeah, but I think the biggest thing that we have is entrepreneurship, you know,
[10:02] SPEAKER_00: even during a time with COVID, we have seen our government support, support the entrepreneurs,
[10:07] SPEAKER_00: the people that want their dreams to be, to be supported and to be heard. And we're seeing a lot
[10:13] SPEAKER_00: of people being able to create these incredible, incredible companies like smart suites, you know,
[10:19] SPEAKER_00: live a lemon, you know, all of the Mac, all the places that we go to, we're Vancouver based. And
[10:25] SPEAKER_00: it's, it's nice to see that even Oakland can be close to that with the entrepreneurship. So it's good.
[10:32] SPEAKER_00: Is there any particular sectors of entrepreneurship that you've noticed growing?
[10:38] SPEAKER_00: I think that the growth is definitely in, well, health is a big one. I think our health and
[10:43] SPEAKER_00: wellness is a huge part. And a lot of people are going into, you know, having virtual, you know,
[10:51] SPEAKER_00: obviously technology is taking a big, a big drive on that as well. And having e-commerce
[10:56] SPEAKER_00: businesses, that's, we're seeing that a lot. But I think the majority of them are kind of staying
[11:02] SPEAKER_00: around that kind of realm or they're going into resources, natural resources and, right, such,
[11:08] SPEAKER_00: Vancouver. Well, and let me ask the question. Just because I've, you have such an intelligence
[11:13] SPEAKER_00: in Vancouver that I haven't been able to tap into really before is, you know, they've made headline
[11:18] SPEAKER_00: news as well that Amazon, you know, relocated or set up shop in Vancouver. What impact have you seen
[11:26] SPEAKER_00: on the housing or the commercial market there? And do you think it's been a draw or other
[11:31] SPEAKER_00: companies? Yes, I think well, number one is the development. They went right away and decided to
[11:38] SPEAKER_00: purchase our, purchase our, one of the main buildings in Vancouver. I decided to revamp everything
[11:44] SPEAKER_00: to house that many people currently. So Amazon, that's number one. They really added to
[11:50] SPEAKER_00: a backdrop that, that whole beautiful part of it, downtown Vancouver and Georgia. So that's
[11:56] SPEAKER_00: been a big part of it. But the second is that we are seeing a lot of people migrating.
[12:00] SPEAKER_00: They were trying to get 35,000 people just locally in Vancouver to go ahead and to work at the
[12:09] SPEAKER_00: facilities there. And then after that, they're actually, they're speaking to people elsewhere.
[12:15] SPEAKER_00: They're looking at people from San Francisco, a lot of people from L.A. that are going to be moving
[12:19] SPEAKER_00: into Vancouver. So I do think in the next after COVID test settled and hopefully people are
[12:25] SPEAKER_00: comfortable coming in and moving in. I think we're going to see a big, big group of people coming
[12:29] SPEAKER_00: from the States to kind of live in Vancouver. And let's talk a little bit about culture because we
[12:34] SPEAKER_00: talked, we said, you know, that's kind of key, right? What that's one of the, is distinctively
[12:40] SPEAKER_00: Canadian and Vancouver is distinctively outdoors and very active. It's a very active city.
[12:47] SPEAKER_00: How will our culture ripple effect through people that relocate here or become,
[12:54] SPEAKER_00: you know, the Canadian culture? Yes, the main Canadian culture. I think you're completely right.
[13:01] SPEAKER_00: Never one. It's really hard to get away, especially with Vancouver. You know, I was away in
[13:06] SPEAKER_00: Brue Creek and close to Whistler this weekend. And I just was in a complete awe of all of the nature
[13:13] SPEAKER_00: that we have here. And I think one thing that, you know, that Naremaa or Kelona or, you know,
[13:19] SPEAKER_00: these places that we're talking about that is that's not even pure to Vancouver. They don't have
[13:24] SPEAKER_00: these incredible mountains and these thick old trees and these beautiful creeks and, you know,
[13:30] SPEAKER_00: it's just in the nature and obviously the wildlife. So I think people, what we're going to see in
[13:36] SPEAKER_00: a culture side is that, even during time of COVID, people were having a real struggle not going out
[13:43] SPEAKER_00: to these public parks because it is part of what we do. We do the gross grind. We're up on the
[13:49] SPEAKER_00: mountain. We're driving trails. And it's encouraged. It's encouraged. And I think our kind of mild
[13:55] SPEAKER_00: climate allows for that. We don't have much snow in Vancouver. It's maybe more damp and wet,
[14:02] SPEAKER_00: but nothing that a great, you know, our tariff swap. Jack can do. You can always find good clothes.
[14:09] SPEAKER_00: But you get you there's these beautiful pieces that I think people are really just going to drive
[14:13] SPEAKER_00: to. That's a huge cult part of our culture. It's to not only enjoy the inside but enjoy the outside
[14:18] SPEAKER_00: and absolutely to be amongst people that are enjoying it as well and taking in the moments.
[14:24] SPEAKER_00: So I want to go back a little bit to your story because it's there's so much in your story that I love.
[14:31] SPEAKER_00: Part of what our goal is is sort of instilling a sense of hope and, you know, a sense that there's
[14:39] SPEAKER_00: opportunities and excitement having an in Vancouver despite COVID and despite a bit of a
[14:45] SPEAKER_00: sort of distribution of people moving to more regional communities. What would you love to
[14:51] SPEAKER_00: wave a magic wand and tap for the locals in Vancouver as far as the future?
[14:57] SPEAKER_00: It's really just to keep with that optimism that Vancouver market, the market isn't going to
[15:03] SPEAKER_00: crash. I think there's a whole big stigma that the market's going to completely, the bubbles
[15:08] SPEAKER_00: going to burst and but what we're seeing and I think they didn't tell them open is that we're
[15:14] SPEAKER_00: seeing more end users and we're seeing more people that are coming to Vancouver to live and I
[15:20] SPEAKER_00: want everyone to know that this is a place that we're just getting started. There's lots of people
[15:26] SPEAKER_00: that are coming in from all over the world that wants to be into Vancouver and what's so nice
[15:31] SPEAKER_00: is our diverse cultures. I think we have an incredible group of, you know, all of our ethnicities
[15:37] SPEAKER_00: in Vancouver that make it so I always laugh because when I prime on like a trip away, you always
[15:44] SPEAKER_00: can see where Vancouver, the Vancouver demographic is because there's such a mixture and that's
[15:50] SPEAKER_00: so beautiful about Vancouver is that we allow, you know, we really encourage people from all over
[15:56] SPEAKER_00: the world to be in this kind of beautiful Pacific Rim part of Canada and also just, you know, I think it's
[16:03] SPEAKER_00: as anything, there's always going to be growing pains and I think with anything we see it, you know,
[16:10] SPEAKER_00: definitely some faults in the government with, you know, infrastructure and allowing permits,
[16:15] SPEAKER_00: allowing for growth in one side for the, for the ability, but they are really pushing forward and
[16:20] SPEAKER_00: and wanting and encouraging more and more density, which is so nice and I think that's how we're
[16:27] SPEAKER_00: going to solve these affordability problems is by constantly letting developers build and to create
[16:33] SPEAKER_00: new homes and new opportunities for young families and families to, to work, live together.
[16:39] SPEAKER_00: So from 440 agents now, which is like a significant impact, you still have growth plans,
[16:47] SPEAKER_00: you'd like to expand in Canada to share a little bit about that?
[16:51] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I think Oakland is we're just getting started as I mentioned, we really have always planned
[16:57] SPEAKER_00: to grow our company and be able to impact and serve more communities that's always been our
[17:04] SPEAKER_00: game plan. We like to do things right, right away and so we are not a big, we're not fast-growing,
[17:11] SPEAKER_00: fast-extensions really quickly, we like to do things smarter with the right people and we aren't
[17:17] SPEAKER_00: going to be hopefully growing soon or sooner or sooner but more into the island side to more of
[17:25] SPEAKER_00: Vancouver Victoria Island side than you'll see things obviously in central Vancouver but our
[17:29] SPEAKER_00: goal would be definitely across Canada. We're just excited, we're we're we're rare to go.
[17:35] SPEAKER_00: When you're looking at the growth line, what are you looking for as you go move into a community?
[17:41] SPEAKER_00: If you want to move smartly and understand the culture, I'm assuming as you expand into a new
[17:48] SPEAKER_00: geography, what are you looking for? Yeah, one of our main core values is putting people first
[17:54] SPEAKER_00: and I think that's been always serving us very well. So what we like to do is number one,
[18:00] SPEAKER_00: connect with the local realtors that actually understand what's happening and has the same kind of
[18:06] SPEAKER_00: intel into the communities. That's one thing is we do we search for great people. I think that's
[18:12] SPEAKER_00: a big part of it. It's the full-time agents, it's the people that are wanting to give back to
[18:18] SPEAKER_00: their community and are doing excellent at breaking the boundary, breaking the bar and making sure that
[18:25] SPEAKER_00: they're creating something different. So they're really driving and embracing change in
[18:30] SPEAKER_00: their local community is that number one. Number two, it's where we find a place where we see that
[18:37] SPEAKER_00: there's an opportunity for lots of growth. That's number to serve as many different families and
[18:44] SPEAKER_00: in a high level, which is very key. And then third is I think our major one is building a community.
[18:52] SPEAKER_00: So we build community with our people, but we also tried to really drive and embrace growth
[19:00] SPEAKER_00: with learning for all of the people around them. So I think that's the main kind of three things
[19:05] SPEAKER_00: that we're looking for. Can I just expand a little bit on that build community? Because I think
[19:10] SPEAKER_00: you know a deep connectedness is something that we're all really looking for and we realize sometimes
[19:14] SPEAKER_00: when we get off the the churn that you know maybe it's missing a little bit or it's maybe there's
[19:21] SPEAKER_00: some net works that aren't quite as connected as we thought during this odd pause. But in community
[19:30] SPEAKER_00: building, what does that look like for you? What other pieces would you love to see as you move
[19:37] SPEAKER_00: into a community and know that your part is you know helping with real estate
[19:43] SPEAKER_00: sales or connecting the right people in the right communities? Who else would you love to
[19:48] SPEAKER_00: collaborate and partner with? Well I think number one is local entrepreneurs. You know I think one
[19:53] SPEAKER_00: of our biggest contributors have always been you know really to serve the people around us and
[19:58] SPEAKER_00: vice versa. So open as always collaborated with local charities, always collaborative with local
[20:05] SPEAKER_00: businesses entrepreneurs and we try to share I expose you really that's number one with our
[20:13] SPEAKER_00: community. But really build community is based on really a great way of building something new
[20:22] SPEAKER_00: and that what I mean by that is that it has to feel refreshing, it has to feel inspiring and I think
[20:28] SPEAKER_00: again I lean back to this but we it's all about the people we we we align ourselves with. So what I
[20:34] SPEAKER_00: mean by that is these agents that we're talking about they're they're people that are really caring
[20:40] SPEAKER_00: about their their community but they're doing a lot of great work. Whether it's in their service
[20:46] SPEAKER_00: to their to their clients or doing along a long-standing growth and trying to help their colleagues.
[20:54] SPEAKER_00: That's a huge part of it. So we believe in Oakland it's all about sharing, collaborating and
[21:01] SPEAKER_00: building with those three things we think that building that's I believe that building our community is
[21:07] SPEAKER_00: that's why it's been so I guess successful because of the people. Can you share yet maybe top three
[21:15] SPEAKER_00: communities that are building something new and inspiring refreshing that you're looking at?
[21:21] SPEAKER_00: I can tell you a couple but I think really in a NIMO and NIMO and all up Coma Squirti Valley that's
[21:30] SPEAKER_00: it's really beyond what they're doing there. I think that's something what you'll see with Lake
[21:34] SPEAKER_00: Cowachan even just with what they're doing with the wineries up there I believe that's a huge
[21:40] SPEAKER_00: huge area that people are not even tapping into. Second one is again that same kind of island
[21:46] SPEAKER_00: like as well but is like half not happening babe at Sunshine Coast and and that side you know
[21:52] SPEAKER_00: being so close to Vancouver. Burnaby which is right into Vancouver as well. Burnaby is going to be
[21:58] SPEAKER_00: one of those obviously Brentwood huge development, huge growth lots of development developers coming
[22:04] SPEAKER_00: into that market being so close to all the transit that's happening in Vancouver and so close to
[22:11] SPEAKER_00: Loki then Cook Whitlam so we're seeing lots of growth on that side so that's the secret guys that's
[22:17] SPEAKER_00: where we're going I think. Yeah I was going to say I really believe it. That's some great intel there
[22:21] SPEAKER_00: that's all BC based is there any particular community in the Prairie provinces or
[22:27] SPEAKER_00: out east that is hitting your radar? Well I'm one of those I'm one of those women that don't say
[22:33] SPEAKER_00: anything until it's done so that should give you a hint of what is happening on the other side.
[22:38] SPEAKER_00: That's already happening but I would say with regards to Toronto Montreal,
[22:45] SPEAKER_00: Quebec and Ottawa we have our eyes on lots of different spaces there but I think as as our market
[22:52] SPEAKER_00: has changed, has COVID has proven that people can work from home a little bit more. We're a brokerage
[23:00] SPEAKER_00: that can really withstand that because we're a nice hybrid so we have lots of technology piece
[23:05] SPEAKER_00: and we have a huge part of our we still believe in kind of broken mortar so we're a beautiful mix
[23:10] SPEAKER_00: of those two as opposed to just one or the other. I can't think of another independent brand
[23:18] SPEAKER_00: beyond open where I just already love the feeling in the essence you know you go to your website
[23:24] SPEAKER_00: and you just feel differently on your website and you know and I've of course
[23:31] SPEAKER_00: stalked a little bit of your brand assets a little bit which is kind of my job is to go you know
[23:35] SPEAKER_00: when you have meetings amongst your your crew that say you know work hard staying humble I mean
[23:43] SPEAKER_00: it's a pretty amazing independent brand how do you anticipate keeping that culture alive
[23:49] SPEAKER_00: well I'll tell my marketing team that you took that you took you felt that because that's
[23:55] SPEAKER_00: a huge plus to us because that's that's a big part of it we're obviously highly
[23:59] SPEAKER_00: we're very really put on social media we've never done Pratad at Oakland that's always been
[24:04] SPEAKER_00: a number one thing we know that our demographic and our growth is really based on the online
[24:09] SPEAKER_00: president you know we really try to come up with creative different ideas I think that's a number
[24:14] SPEAKER_00: the huge part of it you know we have lots of different incentive parties and lots of different
[24:19] SPEAKER_00: collaboration pieces that way we had to do an Oakland games like we put on different things that
[24:24] SPEAKER_00: are really bring our people together so number one I would say we innovate and I think that's
[24:29] SPEAKER_00: a huge part of the community is innovation and being able to think outside the box the second is
[24:35] SPEAKER_00: to really embrace that change that that it's going virtual that we have to bring people together
[24:41] SPEAKER_00: on a virtual level so how can we help that with perks and different growth strategies for them
[24:48] SPEAKER_00: and the third is you know I would say our education and our and our coaching is beyond
[24:54] SPEAKER_00: at Oakland you know we we bring on obviously our 85% of our agents are five years plus at our
[25:00] SPEAKER_00: agency but that that still has a nice beautiful piece for that 15% that's in that one to five years
[25:09] SPEAKER_00: and we believe that it's not just about learning during your one to five years it's about
[25:15] SPEAKER_00: consic growth and I think that's a huge part of our our community I think you people are really
[25:21] SPEAKER_00: seeking to change seeking to push themselves seeking to to push their boundaries and setting goals
[25:27] SPEAKER_00: and getting to them with the people that will celebrate their success well and one of the things you
[25:33] SPEAKER_00: you've told me before is in your agency all or maybe most of them are full-time agents you know these
[25:41] SPEAKER_00: are not agents that are they're in the top one or two percentile of volume you know they're not
[25:49] SPEAKER_00: hard-time agents and I'm sure that is that right did I get that right yeah exactly so we have a
[25:54] SPEAKER_00: thing in Vancouver and I'm sure across Canada where you are standard of top 10% top 1% most of our
[26:02] SPEAKER_00: agents are hitting that and in our top 10% last year we were in the top 1% we were 10% of that so
[26:11] SPEAKER_00: huge bulk bulk of our agents were in the top 1% we are not we're quite humble with with kind of
[26:19] SPEAKER_00: showing statistics we're not the agency to say hey we're the best we we really believe in that
[26:23] SPEAKER_00: work hard stay humble mentality because if we think that if we consistently raise the bar you know
[26:30] SPEAKER_00: and we really can take people with us along that way so sharing intel sharing people's secrets
[26:37] SPEAKER_00: that's a huge part of the the great success of all the agents that are at open absolutely now tell
[26:43] SPEAKER_00: me a little bit about Morgan how on earth do you keep energized and refreshed and keep your own
[26:50] SPEAKER_00: mindset and you know with with innovation what's happening outside your organization yeah that's a
[26:58] SPEAKER_00: great thank you for asking me that I have a lot going on I would say um you know to I have this
[27:05] SPEAKER_00: energy that I think people are like how do you get this energy and I I say you know I was just
[27:10] SPEAKER_00: born with this yeah I'm never I don't know what it is but I do jump out again and maybe it's
[27:20] SPEAKER_00: I have a team my own self with my resell team that I've been doing for about 13 years since I started
[27:26] SPEAKER_00: and we do the top 1% Vancouver so we do service a beautiful group of professionals in Vancouver
[27:34] SPEAKER_00: which we're so lucky to have and then of course I'm writing for Forbes as it and being able to be
[27:40] SPEAKER_00: a contributor there which was session on or for them to ask me to be a part of and that really is
[27:45] SPEAKER_00: my main goal with that is to just serve as much as I can and give back to people that are really
[27:51] SPEAKER_00: thinking about getting into entrepreneurship um my last one was all about being a woman leader and
[27:57] SPEAKER_00: and the challenges with that and I really want to make sure that more working mothers and more
[28:02] SPEAKER_00: women that are wanting to have a family can take that in and say uh I can do it too which that's
[28:09] SPEAKER_00: the goal as you can do your own all and yeah and I think other than that I have a great family
[28:15] SPEAKER_00: and a little toddler so he's two years old my red head I have a red head my
[28:24] SPEAKER_00: he's so cute yeah so I'm very lucky and of course serving you know my main purpose and
[28:31] SPEAKER_00: at Oakland is as being president is to constantly evolve keeping the visions very strong
[28:36] SPEAKER_00: and making decisions to build a company out as in the best way possible and keeping our agents
[28:43] SPEAKER_00: really well served so lots to lots going on on my side but I think the biggest secret is
[28:49] SPEAKER_00: workout and uh thank you for going to the spot I love it well and um you know I think uh one of your
[29:02] SPEAKER_00: comments that you've said to me is if you could spread a spread a message is you can be whatever you want
[29:07] SPEAKER_00: in the time of uncertainty what do you think are the is the key recipe for people who are
[29:13] SPEAKER_00: you know looking to pursue entrepreneurship yeah it's a great I think our our main message
[29:20] SPEAKER_00: for entrepreneurs out there is to make a plan I think that's a huge and make a plan don't be
[29:25] SPEAKER_00: afraid to put your all your goals on a page and and look at them daily and uh and also to have people
[29:32] SPEAKER_00: they're well trusted around you to discuss those plans with you know I think everyone should have a
[29:38] SPEAKER_00: business coach if they can or and if not a mentor a mentor to bounce ideas off as as an entrepreneur
[29:45] SPEAKER_00: I also think take a chance you know I think right now a big a big part of uh COVID is and big
[29:52] SPEAKER_00: realization for a lot of people has been if not now when so this is a time for you to really take
[29:59] SPEAKER_00: take in some of your dreams and some of your thoughts as an entrepreneurship and um really
[30:05] SPEAKER_00: execute them in a great way but the biggest thing is you know you can be whatever you want to be
[30:12] SPEAKER_00: if you have a very big and a strong strength of certainty and that's my biggest message to
[30:19] SPEAKER_00: entrepreneurs out there is you have to be certain what you're doing and never look back I think
[30:24] SPEAKER_00: that's super key absolutely more and how do we get a hold of you pod post podcast what's the best way
[30:30] SPEAKER_00: to connect uh best way to connect with me is to on instagram I think that's my number one
[30:36] SPEAKER_00: platform which is great or my uh which my instagram handle is working ground official and my um
[30:43] SPEAKER_00: website working ground on caf you'd like to ask any questions I'm happy to to have another
