The increased use of AI-enabled scams is making Albertans and local business owners feel more exposed to financial fraud, according to a new TD survey.
The survey revealed that 81% of Alberta residents feel like scams are getting harder to detect, and 78% feel that advancements in AI make them more vulnerable to fraud.

Other key highlights include:
- Nearly half of Albertans (46%) experience scams or fraud attempts weekly or daily, with 86% admitting they feel more concerned about fraud and scams than they did five years ago.
- More than half (57%) of those in Alberta feel vulnerable to financial fraud.
- Despite this anxiety, more than half (57%) of Albertans admit to engaging in risky activity that make them more susceptible to fraud or scams, including using public Wi-Fi to access personal or financial accounts, opening email attachments from an unknown sender or clicking a link in a text or email before verifying the source.
- Almost three-quarters (74%) of Canadian business owners see scams as a significant risk to their business. Nearly two-thirds (61%) say that AI-driven fraud is a top threat to their business.
In this video interview, Sherry Kalantari, Senior Manager, Business Banking Fraud Prevention and Education, TD, discusses the issue.
